SOME WANTED AND UNWANTED AIB LEAGUE RECORDS. By Des Daly
1. St. MARYS. AT HOME TO LANSDOWNE :
This Saturday at Templeville Road St. Marys play their 17th AIBL – 1 fixture with Lansdowne. The Irish headquarters club has previously visited the Dublin 6 W ground on eight AIBL occasions and never suffered defeat at the venue. Over the years, Lansdowne have departed for home with six victories and two draws to their credit. St. Marys have won twice playing away to Lansdowne: the first time under lights in February 1998 and the second time (25-22) in the AIB Championship Final played in May 2000 - the only occasion that two Leinster clubs have reached the Division One decider.
2. OLD BELVEDERE ON THE ROAD IN AIBL – 1:
Old Belvedere competed in Division One for three seasons in the mid-1990s. During that time, the Anglesea Road club played 18 matches at away venues and managed to lose every one of them. Back in the first division this season, Old Belvedere have continued to lose their away fixtures and have suffered five defeats to date. Next Saturday they travel to face Dungannon in Co. Tyrone hoping that their 24th away game in Division One will provide them with their first victory.
3. CONNACHT CLUBS AT CASTLE AVENUE:
Galwegians have travelled and lost at Castle Avenue on five AIBL occasions and are due there again on the last day of this season. Buccaneers have visited Dublin 3 seven times in the AIBL and have never been successful. When Clontarf were in the lower divisions, Sligo, Corinthians and Ballina all paid one visit and all also lost. Fifteen losses, no draws and no victory - Castle Avenue has not been a happy hunting ground for visiting clubs from Connacht.
4 .CONNACHT CLUBS AT STRADBROOK:
Blackrock beat Buccaneers 21-16 on 10 December 2005. It was a red letter day at Stradbrook. After seven visits from Connacht clubs to their south Co. Dublin home, Blackrock had at last forged a victory over a western club. Galwegians (five wins) are as yet still unbeaten at the venue.
