Wanderly Wagons Reach Final of A Section.
31/07/2007
My thanks to all who played for the 2007 Wandererly Wagons. Upon reflection we had a tremendous year despite losing the final on Wednesday to Lansdowne. Thanks for your commitment in not only turning up each week but putting in the effort where it mattered, on the pitch.
We still have a good bit to learn, particularly in terms of concentration and discipline. We need to play together more often to get a good understanding together as a squad. Is that possible? And we need to be fitter!! Once we have all those ingredients then we will be able to consistently compete with the best.
We had some really good wins and performances throughout the season, probably the highlight being the 1st half against the overall winners from 2005 & 2006, Blackrock. Considering we have played in the "B" division for the past number of years to qualify for the final of the "A" league in our first season at that level was quite an achievement. Our goal at the start of the season was to qualify for the Super 6 which we duly did by topping our group. We then finished third in the round robin Super 6 League and by defeating the 2nd placed team, Blackrock, in the semi-final was a great feat. However, Lansdowne were deserved winners in the final and we can have no complaints with our loss. That is not to say we are accepting second best - we have the ability to improve for next season!
Success is never permanent, and failure is never final.
Our social secretary, Mr. Kirk, and I will be in touch regarding preferred dates for our end of season lunch!
