Wanderers v Instonians Semi Final Match Report.
26/04/2007
Semi Final Victory
After another week off between the end of the AIL and the AIB semi final play off’s it was a matter of getting back on the horse and only a focused performance against Instonians would have us in the running for the Grand Final the following week.
With the sprinkler system in overdrive all week trying to soften the pitch prior to the match the action was always going to be hard and fast and so it prooved. Fortunately from the first minute when Billy Tracey converted a penalty goal it was obvious we had brought the right attitude to the encounter. First half tries to Garrett Fitzgerald, Huw Davies and Pom Simone and a superb kicking effort from Billy Tracey meant we were up 30-3 at the break by playing a simple but effective brand of Rugby. A minute into the second half and Billy was finishing of a well worked team try.
Unfortunately we loosened the grip and Instonians to there credit came storming back to pick up a penalty try and drove over soon after to take the score to 37-15 after 50minutes. By the 70th minute after plenty of end to end rugby Billy had completed a dream day for himself with a second try to take his own personal tally with a 100% kicking record to 32 points. With two of our players in the bin for the last 10 minutes Ints took advantage of the mis-match up front and rolled us over from two close range lineouts.
So a pleasing performance and now the chance to sew up a successfully long season when we play a tough Bruff side in the AIB Cup Grand Final this Saturday. A great opportunity for us to show how far we have come this season and to give every last ounce of energy to the cause with the summer break to look forward too!
All Wanderers supporters around on Saturday should make an effort to lend a hand in support as the word is that Bruff are bringing the whole town with them.
