Nenagh Ormond Match Report.

Heartining Result In The Heat .
We were happy to return from Tiperary alive and with a very hard fought victory under the belt. At the start of the season so many had said what a difficult task it was to play Nenagh Ormond away and so it prooved with them needing a win to secure a AIB semi final spot.
With the Easter weekend it was a difficult task just getting us all to the game with only 8 players traveling on the bus the rest having headed from Dublin on the Thursday night. Another beautiful spring day meant a nice drive down but once we arrived at the ground the realization of our difficult task at hand. In our warm-up we talked about the importance for us to finish off the AIL in the appropriate fashion as this would have been a match that we may have talked ourselves out of before a minute of rugby was played in the past.
A great start was made with outstanding scrum half Brendan O’Brien rocketing away from a ruck 60 meters out and diving over close to the posts for Billy Tracey to convert. A run of penalties and after 18 minutes we were up 10-6. We were finding it very difficult to get hold of the ball and attaining positive field position and with calls going against us flank forward Kolo Kiripati was taking a breather in the sin bin. Two further penalties to the determined Nenagh boys and we were down 10-12 at the half.
Positive talk at half-time knowing that we had a huge job to turn the tide with the need to play with more control and start applying more constant pressure to them and with that silencing the crowd that was having a huge say in the game something we were not accustomed to. We got the start we needed with Damien Hunt hitting the line kicking ahead and winning the race to score a great try. Much harder work was put in and we started to play smarter rugby in the extremely hot conditions. Captain Bevan Cantrell was sinned binned, again for reacting to some robust play. A Billy Tracey penalty in the 63rd minute took us to 20-12 lead with the match at boiling point the match was ready to explode when Nenagh crashed over in the 70th minute. The intensity of the match was amazing with the management nearly ready to come out of retirement to help squash the fired up boys from Tip. But to the guys credit they stayed composed under huge pressure and came back to finish with a well worked team try to Ronan Likely right on full-time whistle. Such a pleasing result for so many reasons, the believe we showed as a group was outstanding as only those that were present would know how big the battle was.
A nice touch from Nenagh Ormond as both teams sat down to a well earned meal and speeches from both clubs presidents and captains something that I think should happen more regularly. It was noted in the speeches what an outstanding effort it was to win 13 AIL matches in a row after our huge reality check against Rainey Old Boys way back in October. Congratulations guys the hard yards on and of the pitch have paid off we have achieved our ultimate goal for the season and can look forward to playing in the 2nd division. A week of to freshen up then a home AIB Cup semi-final against Instonians to prepare for which is on the 21st, two more steps to finish the 2006-07 season of in style.
