The New Facilities at Merrion Rd were officially opened on Saturday by the President of the Leinster Branch I.R.F.U. Michael Mc loughlin.
To Celebrate the occassion a match was played between Wanderers and our near neighbours and old rivals Old Wesley.
Wanderers came out narrow winners in a high scoring match winning by 30 to 27.
The match was preceeded by a lunch in the newly refurbished dining facility with two hundred members of both clubs sitting down for a first class meal provided by our in-house caterer Tom Berry of Berry Catering.
After ample quantities of the traditional Roast Pork and some high quality Wine the assembled body were treated to some fine after lunch speaking.
After the two Presidents Robert Deacon of Old Wesley and Ian Burns of Wanderers had regaled us with some amusing recollections of the old dance hall and their activities therin it was the turn of the old masters Bobby Brophy and David Rowell to say a few words in their respective and individual styles. What can you say about the Broph he is like good wine he gets better the older he gets. Roller regaled us with old stories of the dance hall and recalled the entrance fee of seven and sixpence.(i seem to recall it was only two and sixpence). Finishing up with the whole assembly singing some appropriate Percy French songs.
The lunch was kindly sponsored by the Ridgeway Family who were all in attendance with Past President John Ridgeway at the head of the table. The Club would like to thank John and all the Ridgeway family for their continued support of Wanderers.
Finally the Ribbon was cut by Michael Mc Loughlin President of the Leinster Branch and assisted by the President of Wanderers Ian Burns.
The assembley then progressed to the new viewing balcony in front of the bar and watched a high scoring match with some light refreshment served.
