All those involved in Wanderers Junior Rugby would like to pass on their very best wishes to long serving player Kieran Daly, who has decided to travel abroad for the next 15 months.
Kieran is a long standing Junior player and made a huge contribution to the Junior teams over the last few years. A example of his commitment was him texting home on Sat from the Copa Cabana beach in Brazil , wondering how the latest junior match went.
He played in a number of positions over the years, front row, back row, centre and, in all honesty, excelled in all of these areas.
By inclination he wanted to play in the backs and certainly had the foot balling skills to play there, but being a true squad player, spent most of his time in the pack-without complaint,
He was not your stereotypical front row, most often arriving at matches in shorts and flip flops with the air of someone about to hit Bondi beach rather than a opposing front row, but appearances were deceiving ,and he demonstrated excellent technique, strength and toughness, in addition to football skill in the loose that often outshone that of the backs.
He was a great player to coach, willing to listen to what was being said and asked of him , making his own contribution/suggestions at the right time , never complained, worked hard and always gave 100% commitment.
Possibly the only “weaknesses” of Kieran`s was his love of a particular part of southern Ireland , which he was never too slow to mention or refer to, and his inability to find the various rugby clubs “scattered” throughout Dublin(Monkstown/Old Wesley/Old Belvedere being examples).
(We had thought of presenting him with a GPS device at last years Xmas Dinner, but our budget wouldn’t cover this, so a map of Dublin was given instead).
Anyhow, Kieran will be a huge loss to the Club and Squad and all at Wanderers would like to wish Kieran the very best of luck over the next 15 months , that he may have a very safe journey and we look forward to having him back in the Squad on his safe return.
