You are here: Mini and Youth Rugby
Boys U.6 – U.19 and Girls Tip Rugby U.10 - U.14
Forms : Club Transfer / Youths - Mini Registration / IRFU Registration
Here is your chance to be a Brian O’Driscoll or Paul O’Connell. Wanderers are offering the exciting opportunity to play mini and youth rugby every Sunday morning between September and April. This is an opportunity to be coached by former senior players, including former international players. Registration takes place on Sunday mornings at Wanderers F.C. Merrion Rd. Ballsbridge. See contact details below if you require more information.
There are a number of key changes this coming season that we would like to bring to your attention.
Key Information for the Forthcoming Season
- Firstly we would like to bring to you attention to the fact that the IRFU has changed the criteria for determining age categories. Age groupings are now based on calendar year, so for the forthcoming season the U.6s will comprise children born at any stage during 2004, U.7s born during 2003, U.8s born during 2002 etc. This will mean some children will be skipping an age category this season. If you have any queries on this please contact the main contact for each age group listed in the table below.
-
Following the above changes to age categories, the decision has been taken that the U.16 & U.17 categories, to form U.17 age category. The decision has also been taken to merge the U.18s with the U.19s, and the club is reviewing whether or not the U.19s will become part of the senior set up, training during weekday evenings as opposed to on Sunday.
-
The season will start on Sunday 13th September. Please see Table 2 below for start times and training locations for each age group. Players must remember to bring gum shields, no gum shield no rugby.
-
Please complete the club information form, these are available from the main contact for the relevant age group. Remember if your child is not already registered with the IRFU you will need to bring down a copy of their birth certificate and 3 signed passport photographs.
-
Subscriptions: Player annual subscriptions will remain at the same level as last season: €100 for the first child in each family, €75 for the second child in each family, €50 for the third child in each family, and €25 for the fourth child in each family. With the season lasting approx. 32 weeks the standard subscription level equates to a cost of just over €3 per week, which we hope you will agree is excellent value for the enjoyment the children are getting. Please note subscriptions should be handed in along with club information forms to the main contact for the relevant age group.
-
Club kit: Club kit (jerseys, shorts, socks etc.) will be available from the shop downstairs in the clubhouse each Sunday morning during the course of the season, and the price of all kit will remain at the same level as last season (€50 for minis set of kit - jersey, socks and shorts).
-
New players: To ensure the continued success of the mini and youth set up at the club it is important that we continue to get new players to join the club. As such we would ask you to try and encourage friends of your children to come down and try out mini rugby.
We look forward to welcoming you and your children to the club for the forthcoming season, and here’s to an enjoyable season ahead.

* Denotes temporary contacts – these will change at the start of the season
We would also ask parents if they would be willing to assist our coaches over the coming season. Below are 4 key areas where we will require assistance this season:
- Coaching/administration of the teams: While we have head coaches appointed to all age groups we would encourage parents to become more involved in the running of training sessions.
- Team administration: While we have a number of volunteers who assist the coaches with the administrative tasks that are required to ensure a successful and enjoyable season for the children, we would really benefit from additional assistance in the management of administrative tasks such as registration of players; confirmation of training times, organisation of fixtures etc.
- Mini & Youth Rugby Social Committee: For the last two seasons the social aspect of the mini and youth scene has consisted almost solely of an end of season party/BBQ for the players and parents. We believe there is huge scope for increasing the number of social events for the players (Christmas party etc.) and the parents. We have great facilities at the club and we hope that a number of parents will step forward to help with the setting up of a social committee to ensure we broaden the number of events held over the course of the year at the club.
- If you would be willing to assist in any of these areas please get in touch with the main contact for the squad in which your child will be playing this season (see contact details in Table above).
- Child Welfare Officer: We would like to thank Linda Schutte for carrying out this extremely important role up until now, and we hope that one of you will volunteer to take up this extremely important role. If you are interested in filling this position please contact Bernard McCarthy at bernard.mccarthy@mac.com or on 087-2578615. For further information on this area visit http://www.irishrugby.ie/24_13234.php
Sponsorship: The club would also like to ask whether any of the companies you are associated with would consider taking out an ad in the club programme for the coming 2009/2010 season. The costs involved in taking out an ad in the programme are €100 for a half page ad or €200 for full page ad. For further details on taking out in the club programme please contact Ivan Murphy on 086-2424058.
