President's Message

I am delighted to be elected President of Wanderers Football Club for the season 2013/14. It is an honour and a privilege for me and something I could not have dreamed of when joining the Club back in 1978. I will do my very best to represent this great club and the members to the best of my ability over the coming season

These are challenging times and Wanderers are in transition, we have many tough decisions to take over the course of the coming years.

The Executive Committee and all the sub committees, are working on your behalf and are focussed on delivering improvements in how the Club is performing.

Wanderers are delighted to announce the main sponsor of our senior team is Brancott Estate Wines of New Zealand. We really appreciate their support together with all of our Corporate sponsors

At the AGM in May, we announced that the Executive had agreed to the formation of a Development Committee with responsibility to deliver our Club’s future aims. I can confirm a Development Committee has been established with looking into the future profile of our club and will report back to the Club Executive this Autumn. I would like to thank this committee who have spent an enormous amount of time and effort on behalf of the club.

I would ask all members to recommit their support to the Club both on and off the pitch and to lend their support in whatever way possible to make Wanderers journey a success. If there is a theme to this season it should be that it is  ”your Club”.

It is worth remembering that “Change is the price for survival” and whilst Wanderers have a great tradition built up over 143 years, we need to be able to adapt and move forward.

Wanderers Football Club,

Ballsbridge,
Dublin 4.

History

Wanderers F.C., one of the best known Rugby Union Clubs in the world, is Ireland's second oldest Rugby Club having been founded in 1870 by some former members of Dublin University F C., who up to that time had to seek opponents outside of Ireland, as there was no other Irish club at that time.

Wanderers F.C. was one of the founding clubs of the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), hence the title Wanderers F.C. and not R.F.C., as all clubs were football clubs prior to the founding of the IRFU.

The club, now in its 140th season, is proud of its contribution to Rugby Football, having provided 87 Irish International players, 5 captains of Ireland and one captain each of England and Australia in addition to one captain of the Lions.
