Col. Winters Cup - Final

Wanderers FC 30 - De la Salle Palmerston 12

Wanderers J4s won the Col. Winters Cup for the first time since 2005 last night with a thrilling victory over DLSP at a very well supported Kirwan Park.
In a hard fought encounter against a tough DLSP side Wanderers started brightly with an early well taken try by Conor Redmond converted by Sean Gavigan.
Midway through the first half Gavigan added a sweetly struck drop goal before DLSP struck back with a try to leave it 10:5 on the half hour mark.
However, shortly before half time Gavigan landed a penalty to leave the score 13:5 at the break.

Wanderers' French Connection

Saturday the 15th of December was an excellent day for all involved in Mini and Youths rugby in Wanderers thanks to Mini Coordinator Allan Brownlee and Youths Coordinator Jim Doddy. Both had organized under the Leinster Club ticket scheme 180 Wanderers players, coaches and parents, attending the Leinster V Clermont match. Before heading off to the Aviva "The Gathering" met in Merrion Road where they had their last session before Christmas with the emphasis on fun. After the sessions they headed into the Club House where they had light refreshments to bring the sugar levels up !! Outside of the result, and no missing persons reported, all had a really enjoyable day

Also pre match last Saturday, building on the great work of our Mini and Youth section,Wanderers President George Stringer hosted Lycee Francais d`Irelande School parents, teachers and French dignitaries in Merrion Road as a mark of appreciation to the school for the participation of Lycee students in our Mini and Youth section. We were honoured to have attending French Ambassador Emmanuelle d Àchon and husband Jean-Eudes d`Achon in support of the Wanderers Lycee rugby connection. Also in attendance was the President of Clermont Auvergnes Rene Fontes who spoke about the cultural value of such a connection. George made presentations to the French Ambassador and President of Clermont  then spoke about the rich tradition of Wanderers and the importance of our Mini and Youth Section to building the Club going forward.

Wanderers Director of Rugby Greg Lynch  addressed the audience on Mini/Youth  rugby in the Club taking the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of our Minis and Youths Coaches without which none of this would be possible and the importance of the support of Lycee School and the French Business Community in making this happen.Greg then made presentations to Sarah Magadoux Principle of Lycee, and Doctor Pascale Cairet for their continued support.

First Team Coach Damian Hall made a presentation on nutrition for young players giving parents sample menu's which was well received. While all this was going on our Lycee Students were integrating with our Minis and Youth sides outside having fun.
